August 12, 2009: There has been so much going on here that I have not had time to tell what is COMING SOON as the Movie Previews say. Shinnston has things going on almost every month of the year, but the 3 Biggies are July 1 (unless the “rains came down..”) Independence Concert & Fireworks; the Christmas Parade and Shinnston Community Band Christmas Concert the first Saturday in December; Frontier Days the third week of September.
CAR SHOW! The Car Show kicks off Frontier Days on September 20 at Lincoln High School’s parking lot. Registration is at 9 A M and judging at Noon. The Shinnston Area Council of Churches is sponsoring the Wednesday evening entertainment on the Lions Club Stage – a Gospel Sing with area church choirs performing. The evening will be capped off with a performance by the Itty Bitty Band. Thursday will present Confederate Country, followed by the Miss Frontier Days Pageant (the winner competes in the Miss Fairs & Festivals Pageant in addition to winning a scholarship at this level), and the evening ends with entertainment by David Daughtery. Friday entertainment is the Singing Sisters (an absolute treat!), the Hoof & Paw Parade, and the evening is capped with a performance by Jack of All Spades with Chelsea Boyles. (An extra event Friday is the Homecoming Parade for Lincoln High School.) Saturday begins with the Frontier Days Parade at 11 A M. Among the entertainment Saturday is Mountain State Cloggers, Lumberport Middle School Danceline, Yttrium, and Break Mountain. Carnival, vendors, and booths – and the Gillum House has a front row seat! It takes place right in front of us!! Come see for yourself.
