    Welcome to our home.

The Gillum House Bed & Breakfast is like coming back to Granny's house. You feel special because Granny has told you that you are her Favorite!

Shinnston, although only 6+ miles from I-79, offers relaxation or activity as you choose. In Summer the glider on the front porch invites an afternoon of reading pleasure with a tall glass of iced tea (books on the second floor are to be "stolen"). Now, Granny will get you a cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea to savor as you curl up in the Library or the book nook in the Harris Room with a good book. For one inclined to activity bike or hike the West Fork River Rail-Trail (or bring your horse and ride), or enjoy one of the many packages or site-seeing routings available (covered bridges and the glass factory are accessible all year). Kathleen will create a routing just for you and your interests.

Call Granny for a reservation now.

Awaken to the aroma of baking each morning of your stay as Kathleen makes muffins, adapted to be very low fat or fat-free (sugar-free available) for a healthy, delicious breakfast. Enjoy a different mouth-watering entree each morning at the time you request. Every attempt is made to accommodate special diet requirements. Some diets accommodated to date are: Diabetic; Lactose Intolerant; Vegetarian; Vegan; Gluten-free; no Wheat or Dairy.

The FULL breakfast is served at the time you specify in the morning (between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10 AM - please). The Gillum House Bed & Breakfast has a tea for any tea gourmand - choose from over 100 teas currently available.

How fresh is our coffee? Choose your coffee when you arrive. We will roast it tonight for your fresh-ground coffee pleasure in the morning. Choose from coffees from Kenya, Bolivia, Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Sumatra, Panama, India and more..

All books on the second floor are for the enjoyment of our guests who are invited to take their choices with them, compliments of your host. Please do not return the books, they are there to be "stolen".

Dolls made by Margaret Panek are on display in the dining room. The Lois Worcester Collection is in the dining room and throughout the house.

Visit 2-Wheel Classics - the art gallery in the Library.

Guests rooms are on the second floor. The Gillum House is a smoke free facility - there is a crystal ashtray on the porch for our guests who smoke. Children are welcomed but must bring at least one parent or guardian. Due to allergies of the host, pets are not accepted.

Dinner (unless booking a Gillum House Bed & Breakfast package that includes dinner) is available at Jimmy's Diner - the restaurant version of "CHEERS", Peking Chinese Restaurant, or Pizza Express.

The Gillum House is "Green". The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection had a pilot program on Environmental Management Systems with 15 West Virginia businesses being chosen from all the applicants. The Gillum House was chosen as a participant. Your comfort and pleasure of your stay at the Gillum House will be ensured as we also protect those things that make West Virginia so Wild and Wonderful. The Gillum House Bed & Breakfast has been awarded 5 Green Triangles by BestGreenHotels.com.

Also in our efforts to be aware of the comfort and possible allergies of our guests, the Harris Room is feather/down-free and the laundry detergents used are dye-free and perfume-free. Softeners and softener sheets are not used for that reason, but towels and linens are "fluffed" in the dryer.

In-room or studio massage appointments, spa appointments, bicycle and helmet use, or stable facilities can be arranged.

Your host, Kathleen Panek, was named 2006 WV SBA Home-Based Business Champion of the Year. She was the trainer for the Louisiana/Mississippi Bed & Breakfast Association Conference Aspiring Innkeeper Seminar in St. Francisville, LA 2006, Aspiring Innkeeper Seminars throughout West Virginia, workshops on Cooking for Special Diets in North Carolina, Louisiana, and West Virginia, and workshops on Marketing for Lodgings. Her cookbook created for this workshop, It Isn't in There, But It Tastes Great! is available for purchase for $7.50.

Off-street cement pad parking for motorcycles and overnight stabling available for horses traveling with their people. Bereavement rates available.
