Shinnston, although only 6+ miles from I-79, offers relaxation or activity. Hike the West Fork River Rail-Trail , visit the covered bridges, winery, or other places and things available in the area - the antique shops and WV craft shops are open all year. Kathleen will create a routing just for you and your interests that will give you a day of sites and activities and then bring you back to the bed & breakfast.
Remember how nice it was to go to Granny's house? She wanted everything to be nice for you. We admit it - Granny lives here. This Granny invites you back to Granny's house with one big exception - we promise not to hover over you. We do promise to attempt to give you a "best night's sleep" and an ample breakfast to remember (in a good way).
Awaken to the aroma of baking each morning of your stay as Granny makes muffins, adapted to be very low fat or fat-free (sugar-free available) for a healthy, delicious breakfast. Every attempt is made to accommodate special diet requirements. We use locally or West Virginia grown/produced products as much as possible in our breakfasts.
Remember the second B in Bed & Breakfast means breakfast and breakfast at the Gillum House is worth getting up for! The complimentary FULL breakfast (cook's choice) is served at the time you specify each morning (between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10 AM - please). Everything we serve is fresh-baked "from scratch" as we do not buy mixes. Egg dishes are heart-healthy and made with herbs from our herb garden as seasoning. We offer sweeteners for every taste - sugar, and in the packets we offer the pink, blue, yellow, and green packets for everyone's preferences. Sometimes we play with the fruit as seen below. Entrees may be the ham-egg cups as seen below or a baked oatmeal so good guests write back asking for the recipe (Pssst - it is on the Recipe Page here.) or one of our other many entrees.
Tea gourmands - choose from over 100 teas currently available.
How fresh is our coffee? Choose your green coffee tonight. We will roast it for your fresh-ground coffee pleasure in the morning. Choose from coffees from Kenya, Bolivia, Guatemala, Sumatra, Peru, Costa Rica, Panama, Oahu, Maui, and more.. We usually have 16 to 20 countries of origin of coffee beans.
We have 2 bicycles and helmets in the shed for our guests to use. We do not rent them, just suggest a donation to the Lord's Pantry for the use of the bikes.
We are motorcycle friendly with off-street cement pad parking for motorcycles. Nearby overnight stabling is available for horses traveling with their people. Only the horses of guests registered at Gillum House are stabled.
